A resident assistant (RA) is a trained peer leader who supports students within their residence hall community. An RA has many roles and responsibilities, including but not limited to; building a safe and inclusive community, being a familiar first resource for students with academic or institutional questions, and enforcing residence hall and university policies.

- Two References (submission form on http://www.ship.edu/housing/BeAnRA under RA Reference); 1 completed by a Housing & Residence Life staff member and 1 by a non-family member who can speak to your involvement or experience (i.e. advisor, previous supervisor, coach, professor)
Please note, this position requires availability beyond the stated times in the application. Work will be performed over various nights and weekends throughout the year. This is coordinated with your staff and supervisor once hired.
***HOW TO DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE FEDERAL WORK STUDY***
To determine if you have received federal work study funds, log in to your myship portal, click on “student,” then “paying for college,” then “financial aid award,” and then select the current academic year (i.e. 2022-2023). To see your award for the current academic year, click on the tab labeled “award offered.” There you should see what funds you have available.
