This paid, part-time position (10-20 hours/week) during school semesters can be 30-40 hours/week during summer months if a student takes a reduced course load. The pay rate is $20.00 per hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES = EXPERIENCE YOU CAN ACHIEVE WORKING WITH US:
The marketing intern will fully engage with the sales and marketing team to support the company’s marketing strategy and execute tactics for Flat5. Primary marketing assignments and efforts will be focused on:
- Data Compilation & Assimilation: As part of our efforts to expand our commercial outreach and encourage our target audience to buy our products, we must remain up-to-date with e-commerce industry news, as well as other market factors that may influence our business. This includes keeping track of cultural, demographic, and economic changes that may affect our operations. We need someone capable of collecting, distilling, and translating relevant data and information into meaningful content to achieve this goal.
One of the initial project duties for this role will be conducting in-depth research to collect data on potential partners, such as shippers and brokers, throughout the country. Another project initiative will use various data collection methods to build a comprehensive database of C-suite contacts. This will require a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the market.
However, as deadlines and scheduling permit, we intend to offer opportunities to acquire other on-the-job experience in the field that includes assisting with:
- Content Development: Developing content for each phase of the buying process in a variety of formats (e.g. videos, blog articles, newsletters, data sheets, advertisements, articles, press releases) across a wide variety of channels (e.g. company website, social media, industry publications, printed sales collateral, newsletters, trade shows, mobile applications, webinars, etc.)
- Branding: Ensuring all content is on-brand, aligned with editorial direction and audience, consistent in style, quality, and tone, grammatically correct, and optimized for search and customer experience across all channels
- Management & Promotions: Developing and managing an editorial calendar and content for publications aimed at increasing customer engagement; this includes collaborating with the sales and marketing team to identify, develop, and promote customer success stories, create product description content, website content, video scripts, technical documentation, and other materials.
- Other: Developing and fostering effective working relationships to facilitate communications, solve problems, and identify strategies to improve the customer experience, increase productivity and profitability, make operational improvements, and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB ENTRY REQUIREMENTS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
The successful candidate must be inquisitive, self-motivated, and demonstrate the following attributes:
- Progress toward an undergraduate or master’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and research skills with an aptitude for data collection, data management, and report generation
- Effective, persuasive, and compelling written, oral, and digital communication skills are critical as is a solid working knowledge of various social media platforms, including LinkedIn and Twitter,
- High comfort level with technology, software, spreadsheets, all Microsoft Office products, video and graphics editing applications, etc. Must have “Day 1” Excel skills including the ability to work with filters, v-lookups, pivot tables, and other advanced features. Ability to quickly learn new tools including but not limited to sales CRM (e.g., Salesforce) and presentation tools like Zoom, Google Meet, etc.
- If hired, must adhere to all company policies and procedures, safety requirements, and other prescribed best practices/industry standards.
“Plus” – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with marketing automation tools like Hubspot and Mailchimp
- Understanding of the freight and logistics industry.
- Bilingual (Spanish is highly desired).
Other Considerations:
The job is primarily performed indoors in a traditional office setting. The individual must constantly talk, hear, stand, or sit for extended periods while using a computer, telephone, or other productivity devices to communicate with other personnel and conduct business. While performing the duties of this job, the individual is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Individuals frequently use their hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects and computer keyboards to perform this job. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl, squat, turn/twist, and smell. The individual must frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds and/or occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
On a frequent and routine basis, this job also requires the individual to be physically present in a manufacturing area to communicate with others and conduct business. The noise levels in the facility can also vary widely in different regions and specific workspace restrictions are also possible. Occasional sitting, standing, moving forward/back/side-to-side, and working around machinery and moving parts is possible; exposure to electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, chemicals, oils, sealants, solvents, and other compounds is possible.
Site conditions will dictate using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including eye, hearing, and respiratory protection, a protective smock, steel-toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, or face shields. Contact lenses may not be allowed in some areas.
