The Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR) helps coordinate academic or other accommodations for over 400 undergraduate and graduate students who present with a variety of documented disabilities.

Student employees are responsible for assisting in the accommodation process utilized by students, including:

  1. Schedule, monitor, and proctor daily exams with accommodations
  2. Prepare and package exams for delivery when students finish their exams
  3. Support a distraction-reduced testing environment
  4. Return completed exams to professors’ offices routinely
  5. Serve as a reader and/or scribe when needed
  6. Set up and ensure students have access to required technology as needed
  7. Complete daily routines to open and close the office
  8. Assist with filings, mailing, and cleaning the testing rooms once per day
  9. Other duties as assigned

Adherence to strict confidentiality guidelines is expected. Work hours are scheduled between 7:45AM–4:30PM Monday through Friday, with up to twenty (20) hours per week at most. Attire is casual, but appropriate.

The Just Ask Advising Center (JAAC) is a triage space for academic advising and student success support. Student employees working at the JAAC reception desk can expect students to come in looking for help in the Office of Accessibility Resources (OAR), Office for Student Success (SS), Academic Advising, First Year Experience (FYE), Transfer Support, & Veteran Verification. The primary role of this position is to receive students as they come into the JAAC and then provide them with the appropriate resource. This can include:

  1. Answering all general questions by utilizing the JAAC Knowledge Database currently housed within Microsoft Teams
  2. Referring more nuanced questions to the appropriate staff member by scheduling an appointment on the student’s behalf through SSC
  3. Guiding the student to the appropriate staff member (if needed) via a direct hand-off/tour of the route to their office
  4. Notifying the relevant department/staff member when an appointment has arrived
  5. Operating the main phone line for the JAAC and answering questions when possible (while redirecting nuanced questions as needed)
  6. Demonstrating excellent customer service by being alert and welcoming to arrivals, professional with responses and appearance, and proficient in answering questions clearly
  7. Maintaining a clean and pleasant lobby space
  8. Other duties as assigned

Adherence to strict confidentiality guidelines is expected. The JAAC has operating hours between 9AM-3PM Monday through Friday. Attire is casual, but appropriate.

Students should be Federal Work Study eligible to apply.

  1. Log in to the MyShip Experience Portal with your Ship email and password that you created.
  2. For ACCEPTED STUDENTS click on the “Financial Aid – Accepted Students” box. For CONFIRMED STUDENTS click on the “Financial Aid” box.
  3. If you have received a financial aid offer email, click on “Financial Aid System” and then click on “Options for Accept Award Offers” and then click on the “Offer” tab.
  4. All the aid currently offered will be listed.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION

Open the attached Student Employment Application in a new browser tab, download, and then open in Adobe Acrobat (if using a Mac, open in Preview). Review and complete the application in its entirety. Save the document to your computer when finished. Follow the instructions below for uploading your MANDATORY resume and application.

NOTE: Separate Student Employment Application and resume are required for consideration for each position.

Upload your Resume:

  • Click “My Documents” tab
  • Click “Add New” button
  • Label: Type name for your document
  • Document Type: Select “Resume”
  • Click “Browse” to locate and upload your file
  • Click “Submit” button

Upload Completed Application:

  • Click “My Documents” tab
  • Click “Add New” button
  • Label: Title of the document you are uploading
  • Select “Student Employment Application”
  • Click “Browse” to select your completed student employment application from your computer
  • Click “Submit” button

Apply to position:

  • Click “Apply” button
  • Select Student employment application to attach
  • Select resume to attach (if you have uploaded multiple resumes)
  • Click “Submit”

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY VERIFICATION AND WORK AUTHORIZATION

Employees must present original documents as evidence of identity and employment authorization. These documents should be brought to the Office of Human Resources (Old Main 109) prior to the employee’s first day of work. The list of acceptable documents is available at https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents. Employees can choose to provide one item from List A or one item each from List B and List C. Photocopies of documentation will not be accepted.

All employees need to present their social security card to ensure their legal name is entered into our payroll system.

Employees and hiring departments will receive an “Authorized to Work” email to confirm when the employee may begin working. Students may not work prior to receiving this authorization email from Student Payroll.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS

Background clearances are required for this position.

If you have previously completed your employment background clearances within the past five years for Shippensburg University or another PASSHE institution, you will not need to complete them again. You can submit copies to studentpayroll@ship.edu (if you have not done so already). If you do need to complete background clearances, SU will provide payment codes so that there is no cost to you. These codes and detailed instructions will be sent to you in a separate email.
